The Family of David Brazille Plunk and Rosa Belle Kelley

David Brazille Plunk Family

Back row, left to right:  David Brazille Plunk, Rosa Belle Kelley Plunk, Estes Floyd Plunk, Orvan O. “Bud” Plunk, Ancel Plunk.

Front row, left to right:  Ordie Plunk, Ruby Plunk, Vessie Plunk.

David and Belle had 12 children, six boys and six girls.  I would love to find a picture of the entire family together.

A marriage license was issued to David Plunk of Poyner, Ripley, MO, who is of the age of twenty-one years and Belle Kelley of Ponder, Ripley, MO, who is under the age of eighteen years on 4 Feb 1901.  J.E. Kelley, father of Belle Kelley gave his consent to the marriage.  They were married on 5 Feb 1901, Ripley County, MO, by Justice of the Peace, James F. Young, Jr.  The witness to the marriage was John Kelley, Belle’s father.

David Plunk was born 8 May 1879/80 AR and departed this life 1955 Tulsa County, Oklahoma.  He is buried Coweta, Wagoner, OK.  He was raised by William Henry Plunk and Sophia Angeline Niswonger and assumed the Plunk surname.  His biological parents are unknown.

Although I was three years of age when he died, I have a few memories of him.  He was blind by the time I came along and used to sit in a rocking chair in his bedroom.  I remember sitting on his lap while he was teaching two of my male cousins how to whistle.  They were a couple of years older than me and caught on quite easily, while I still can’t whistle.

Rosa Belle Kelley was born 23 Nov 1883 Ripley County, Missouri and departed this life 15 Feb 1970 Tulsa County, Oklahoma.  She is buried Coweta, Wagoner, OK.  Her parents were John E. Kelley and Mary Jane Burnley.

Grandma (Belle) was the most amazing woman I’ve ever known.  I think all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren were probably called candy stick at one time or another.  She would get herself a cup of coffee and ask whichever one of us happened to be around to put our finger in it to sweeten it up a little.  If my sister or I misbehaved, she would hand us the broom and tell us to sweep the devil out of the house.  And we did!  There were also times we were required to memorize Bible verses.

The children of David Brazille Plunk and Rosa Belle Kelley were:

Estes Floyd Plunk

Orvan O. “Bud” Plunk

Ancel Orick Plunk

Ordie Givin Plunk

Vessie David Plunk

Ruby Muriel Plunk

Opal Gertrude Plunk

    Hi Carla,
I had the new Ancestry DNA test trying to tear down the brick wall on Dr. Peter Plunk parents. I have some great leads. Maybe we can accomplish our goals thru DNA.
    Good Luck,
    Lonnie Plunk

That’s great news Lonnie! In a couple of weeks gedmatch.com should be accepting the ancestry test and you will be able to compare results of all three companies. I had mine done through Family Tree DNA. It will be interesting to see if you and I are genetic cousins
