I am not an expert in the field of genetics, nor genealogy.

This is a record of my journey of learning and attempting to use genetics and paper to find unknown ancestors. I welcome corrections to any errors I inadvertently make, as well as questions or comments.

As far as my own genealogy, nothing in these blogs should be taken as the absolute, written in stone, fact. Always, always, always, prove it for yourself.

Hi Carla, I discovered your blog after spending the morning “building out” the family tree you posted at FTDNA. You are listed as a distant cousin but at GEDmatch you do not match my paternal aunt…and in my situation all distant cousin trees are worth tracing! What a laugh I had at myself finding another individual with a mystery in their family tree. I am an adoptee and through luck (OK, a lot of lucky research)I discovered my paternal side of my tree (verified through 23andMe) but am still searching for my maternal roots.

      Hi Kathy.
I haae come to the conclusion that all of us that have turned to DNA have mysteries to solve. I think my main one is pretty close to finding the biological family if not the actual parents themselves. I will look you up on FTNDA and GEDMATCH. Maybe we can solve some more mysteries together!

Are you still researching the Nipps/Nip/Nipp/Nepp/Knipp families. My mother is a Nipps and I have done some research without a lot of success.

Just found out that my great, great, great grandfather John “James” Boatwright son of Thomas Boatwright is actually son of Henry Nipp and Lucinda Coker. I haven’t got the DNA report back yet but am fairly certain that this is factual.

Henry Nipp (Great, Great, Great Grandfather)
John J Boatwright Great, Great Grandfather)
    John Morine Boatwright (Great Grandfather)
    David Franklin Boatwright (Grandfather)
    David Newell Boatwright (Father)
    David Newell Boatwright Jr. (Me)
    David Jacob Boatright (My Son)

Any genealogy would be appreciated…this is shocking to me as several years ago (before DNA testing) I traced back to England and was convinced that my findings were concrete.

    That all changed today!

      Hi David
I’m not an expert either, but I am reasonably certain that John/James Boatright is a Boatright. Several of his descendants have tested. Both Ydna and atDNA. YDNA is a male only test that follows the line from father to son to son to son, etc. of his direct male descendants through his sons indicates at the present time that they are Boatwrights, except for his sonThomas Lee Boatright who is a Nipps. I will be happy to work with you when your results come in. In the meantime I would suggest reading the blog of Roberta Estes, DNAEXPLAINED.
